It seems like only yesterday that the final whistle blew on the 2012 college football season. But fans of the pigskin never fret: gameday is just around the corner as Millsaps, Jackson State and Belhaven, our hometown teams, take to the field in a matter of weeks.
Millsaps College opens their season on September 7 at Mississippi College in Clinton in the annual tradition “Backyard Brawl” at 7pm (Tickets are available here). The Majors bested the Choctaws 23-17 last year.
Home games at Harper Davis Field for Millsaps include LaGrange on September 14; Point University, Georgia on September 21; and Hendrix on October 5. The home stretch picks up again with a November 2 homecoming date with Berry followed by November 9’s match-up with Centre. (See the Majors full schedule here).
Jackson State University travels to the Crescent City on August 31, opening their season in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against Tulane. Home games at Veteran’s Memorial/Tiger Stadium in Fondren include the September 7 “W.C. Gordon Classic” against Alabama State and Texas Southern on September 19. October 5 is a home game against Arkansas Pine Bluff, October 19 is homecoming versus Grambling State and November 16 brings the return of Alcorn State to Jackson. Belhaven University will feature five home games this fall. The Blazers will open the 2013 season at home against Texas College on Saturday August 31 at 7pm. The Blazers home schedule features games with Texas College, University of the Cumberlands (KY) on September 14, Cumberland University (TN) on September 21, Lindsey Wilson College (KY) on October 26, and Faulkner University (AL) on November 2.
