In what has become known as Fondren’s “official rites of spring,” Arts, Eats & Beats kicks off the 3rd annual Fondren’s Zippity Doo Dah® Weekend on Thursday, March 21. This evening features the eclectic musical and artistic offerings of the Fondren area while encouraging patrons to explore the entire business district. Come hear a variety of bands throughout the neighborhood with special performances from Southern Halo and Buddy & The Squids on the Ergon-Clear Channel main stage on Duling Avenue. This is also the time of arrival of the Budweiser Clydesdales who will be with us all weekend.
Southern Halo is the creation of a soulful sister trio born and raised in the Mississippi Delta. Talented beyond their years, the girls bring a unique blend of blues, southern rock and pop country to the 5:30pm AEB slot. Later in the night, Jackson’s own Buddy & The Squids takes the stage at 7:30pm. Buddy & The Squids perform originals & the classics of The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows to current numbers from The Mermen, Aqua Velvets, Shig & The Buzz, Man Or Astro-Man. The band even takes famous hits from MUSE and Britney Spears and turns them into surf songs. The two bands are brought to you by Ardenland.
At Fondren Guitars, you’ll hear the student Rock Band and at Sneaky Beans, a front porch concert and back lot show are also in the works. There will be music at Que Sera Sera, Sal & Mookie’s Pi(e) Stage and other spots throughout the district. Stores will remain open late and many will offer refreshments. Of course, our restaurants will be open and serving their specialties.
The evening would not be possible without Fondren Renaissance, the organization credited with spearheading the revitalization the neighborhood. Along with sponsors and community partners, Fondren Renaissance works day and night to bring about free to the public events such as Arts, Eats & Beats. zdd13
