Break out the bubbly: the ladies of the Shoe Bar at Pieces have hit the 19 year mark today. Opened as Designer Shoe Palace on Lakeland Drive in 1993, owner Kaye Simmons moved to Fondren five years ago. “And here we are at 19,” she says.

When we spoke with Simmons two years ago, she had moved her business here to avoid an area she believed was becoming “overstored.” Five years after moving in at 425 Mitchell Avenue – the first business to do so – she says business is good due to her loyal followers. “Despite a bad economy,” she says, “we’re celebrating because our dedicated customers always come through for us.”

Simmons’ granddaughter, Becki Hicks, is the trend guru at Shoe Bar and she says this year’s footwear trends are all in stock. “It’s ankle booties, over-the-knee boots, snake skin and colored suedes,” she explains. Clothing wise, Hicks says the look is still leggings, crop jackets, sequined jeans and skinny jeans. “It’s a bit more amped up this year.”

To celebrate, you can sign up for their VIP network. Text SHUZ to 57711 and you’ll receive exclusive deals twice a month, VIP party invites and get a text back for 25% off a $50 purchase. The service is free.

Simmons invites you to the store this evening from 5-7pm. “Come by and let us thank you for 19 years of loyal patronage. We appreciate you.”
