For a historic tour like the one coming through Fondren overnight, there’s got to be some pomp and circumstance, no? A couple of local businesses think so and will offer extras surrounding the Flaming Lips concert, part of a record breaking attempt coming to Duling Hall early Thursday morning.  Both Brent’s and Morningbell are ready to “pregame” with bands, drink specials and more.

At Brent’s, a limited menu will be offered along with beer from 9:30-11:30pm. Electric Hamhock will perform, presumably out front, to entice concert goers to stop by prior to the 11pm doors at Duling Hall.  The band is Matt Benton-bass, Ron Blaylock-drums and vocals, Michael Curran-keys and Brian Larose-guitar.

Across the street in the Duling School at Morningbell, the record shop will host two bands. The first at 8pm is Guantanamo Baywatch of Portland and at 10pm, Virginia’s Wild Nothing takes the mic.  $2 PBR and Highlife beer will be offered until 2am.  Store owner Drew McKercher mentioned another surprise aspect of the evening: he tells us that since it was a limited offering of tickets, doors will be open to Duling Hall so everyone can hear the show. “There will be a  projector outside and they’ll project on the building,” he tells us. “It’s still a good idea to come out even with no ticket.” Arden Barnett, the show’s promoter agrees. “A green space will be provided outside Duling for non-ticket holders to enjoy the atmosphere of this momentous night in Fondren!”

Here’s the plan: first band at midnight – T Bird and the Breaks; 1am – The Cleverlys;  2am – Neon Indian and closing the show, The Flaming Lips.

The show is sponsored in part by Cathead Vodka and Find It In Fondren™.
