It’s the first Tuesday of the month and that means things get theatrical tonight at Brent’s. Fondren Theatre Workshop will feature works by Belhaven Theatre department chair and associate professor Joseph Frost at 7pm. Works to be read will include “RETURN,” an MTA playwriting competition finalist, as well as two works from a cycle of ten plays being co-written by Frost and several Belhaven students. Based upon the poem “Phoenix Hairpin,” the two plays to be read are “Peach Blossoms Fall” and “East Wind Unfair.” The fourth work will be, as Frost puts it, “a surprise.”
An award-winning playwright and actor, Frost has appeared on stage as Bottom and Lysander in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Mitch in “Tuesdays with Morrie,” Czolgosz in “Assassins,” Gordon in” Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” and as Hamlet. He appeared in the independent feature films “The Proper Care and Feeding of an American Messiah” and “Endings.” Frost is a former board member of Christians in Theatre Arts (CITA), and is a current member of the Dramatist’s Guild of America, a board member of the Fondren Theatre Workshop of Jackson, the state representative to the board of the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) from the Mississippi Theatre Association (MTA), and the artistic director of the floodlight theatre company.
Fondren Theatre Workshop is thrilled that Brent’s is sponsoring these events, offering food service starting at 6pm, with play readings to begin at 7pm. Note: food service is until 6:30pm. No orders will be served after the readings begin at 7pm.
