With the popularity of an Oscar nominated movie in mind, a group of coastal seniors made a stop in Fondren today. Melinda Freeman, tour coordinator for the Lively Ones, said ‘The Help’ made our neighborhood a must-see stop along their journey to Memphis. “It’s really big right now”, Freeman told us, “and we watched the movie on the bus on the way here”. Freeman says the travel club, started by BancorpSouth on the coast has been in existence for around 15 years and is for customers of theirs who have travel interests. The two dozen or so made their first stop of the day in Fondren for a tour lead by Fondren Renaissance Executive Director Jim Wilkirson. Points of interest included Duling School, Woodland Hills neighborhood (including Castle Crest and Fountainhead) and The Cedars (left). Freeman was ecstatic about their choice to see Jackson’s Hippest Neighborhood™. “I love it here! It’s a little retro and I love that period of time”.
After lunching on egg and olive sandwiches, burgers and malts at Brent’s, the group went on to Memphis for a two night stay to include Graceland, The Pink Palace Museum and Neely’s Barbecue.
