The ‘Top of Fondren is preparing for their annual fall event, coming in October. Broadmeadow Neighborhood Association will host BlocktoberFeast, Saturday, October 8, from 3pm to 7pm on Montbrook Street in Broadmeadow. This year’s event will feature food and children’s activities, including crafts, a bounce house and face painting, beginning at 3pm – and live music.
Event organizer Terry Neyland says this is something she brought with her from Texas. “We started ‘BlocktoberFeast’ when (my husband) Jeff, (daughter) Isabel and I moved to Jackson from Dallas”, she tells us. “My neighborhood there used to have a similar block party every October where neighbor kids’ bands played. There would be a bounce house and all the neighbors would just carry folding chairs out and roll their grills to the street. So, when we moved here, I asked Dan & Beth Autrey, Marc and Cookie Leffler and other neighbors to help me put the BlocktoberFeast together”. Neyland says the event is growing. “It has turned out to be great – and is really open to everyone. Last year we had about 250 people show up. We would like to get a broader audience to come and hang out”.
Admission to BlocktoberFeast is free. Pulled pork plates will be available for purchase (cash only: $8/plate; $3/cup with unlimited beer refills; $10/plate + cup; $5 kids plates) beginning at 4pm. To pre-order event t-shirts, contact Neyland, at firstname.lastname@example.org by September 25.
