The Zombies are coming to Fondren. But, don’t be alarmed, we are making it family friendly and fun! Join the Mississippi Optometric Foundation, as we raise awareness about children’s vision issues, in our first ever ZOMBIE CHARITY CRAWL from Dusk till Dark and ZOMBIE PROM after Dark on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in historic Fondren.

The Mississippi Optometric Foundation (MOF), the Fondren Association of Businesses (FAB), and the Fondren Renaissance Foundation (FRF) have partnered to bring something new to the neighborhood streets. It is no secret that Zombies have invaded pop culture and can be seen in everything from the hit A&E series The Walking Dead, to movies like Zombieland, I Am Legend and the classic George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead. And, who could forget the iconic Michael Jackson music video “Thriller” from the 80’s? Naturally, hip Fondren is the perfect location for this first-year Zombie Fest.

This family friendly event will be a fun and safe venue for zombies of all ages. The FAMILY FESTIVAL, from 5:30p.m. until 7:30pm., will feature a children’s costume contest, zombie costume contest, pumpkin decorating contest, face painting, inflatables, trick or treating, MOVIE MADNESS, and the MARKET in Fondren on the Duling School east lawn. A special “Get Zombiefied” tent will also be available for those individuals wanting to walk in “alive” and walk out “undead.” After dark, adults 21 and over may attend the ticketed Zombie Prom at Duling Hall featuring live music by “The ROCKING Dead” (The Jason Turner Band).

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mississippi Optometric Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to educating the public about eye health issues and children’s vision and underwriting programs to assist in the providing eye exams and vision wear for children, the indigent and the working poor.
