The Fondren Renaissance Foundation will dedicate Fondren Park Wednesday August 24 at 10am. Fondren Park is a neighborhood revitalization project of the Foundation and is made possible with a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This $500,000.00 grant project is located at the corner of Dunbar Street and Northview Drive on the west side of Fondren. The city of Jackson owns the park and granted temporary ownership to the Foundation for the park improvements to be made. New improvements include a park pavilion equipped with stage and movie capabilities, a community garden with raised beds, a running track, modern play structures for children as well as a specialized one for toddlers, a climbing net, water fountain, park benches and barbeque grills.
The Mayor, city council, representatives from Senator Thad Cochran’s office, representatives from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as well as Fondren and neighborhood representatives are slated to attend. Campbell’s Bakery in Fondren will be creating a replica “Fondren Park” cake for the occasion. Sister Dorothea Sondgeroth will give the dedication and a plaque commemorating the event will be unveiled. Dignitaries will plant the community garden. We look forward to your attendance at this historic event in Fondren.
