Save some celebration from your Independence Day weekend for 5-8pm on July 7. That’s the date of the Fondren Association of Businesses Fabulous Fondren Freedom Fest on the great lawn at Duling (next to Babalu.) Last year’s event was a big hit for children and parents alike with carnival games, dunking booth, space jumps, cotton candy, watermelon, snow cones and the delightful children’s parade in Fondren. With decorated bikes, wagons and strollers and following their very own Pied Piper. Fondren families, along with their pets, marched through Fondren’s historic business district with flags waving. This year’s fest will include hot dogs and burgers as well as other simple items available for purchase. While the carnival games remain free, Fab encourages you to bring a donation of either canned items to go to a local food pantry or school supplies which will go to Boyd Elementary School. If time runs out and you don’t have time to pick up actual items, there will be a jar for cash donations. And don’t forget to doll up the bikes, trikes, and wagons for the parade. There will be prizes for best decorated!
