There are many reasons why I love Fondren. An unexpected good time definitely tops the list. After a crazy work week, my husband and I both found our calendars free on Friday night. And although we got a late start, we eventually made our way to circa. URBAN ARTISAN LIVING for Jazz Night. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.

We were greeted by the greatest shop owners, Craig and Michele Escude. We paid our $12 each, got our drinks (the sangria was delicious) and settled in our cozy nook. The moment I knew the night was going to be good was when Pam Confer of Jazz Beautiful broke into Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and mixed in a little of Jill Scott’s ‘Golden.’ My husband was particularly entranced by the beats and the bag of tricks of the percussionist, Rufus Mapp. The diverse crowd grooved – or did the electric slide – until the clock struck eleven. Our only regret is that we didn’t show up earlier.

The next jazz night at circa. is already on my calendar for (May 27). We’ll be there with an entourage. I’m rolling in with 10 people next time.

You will definitely 'find' her at circa. on May 27 from 7-11pm.
