Sport: fondRUN™ at Café Olé

fondRUN™ returns June 6 to Fondren After 5. Presented by liveRIGHTnow and Find It In Fondren™, fondRUN™ is a 2 mile run or walk open to all levels. The monthly event is sponsored in part by Fondren Renaissance Foundation.

Participants meet at 6pm, run 2 miles and return to enjoy drinks and dining. The first round of beer will be “on the house” courtesy of Southern Beverage. June’s location is Café Olé, across from Que Sera Sera.

fondRUN™ is free and is presented in conjunction with Fondren After 5, a late evening monthly opportunity to stroll, shop and dine. All runners must sign a waiver to participate. While the run is open to all ages, no one under 21 will be served alcohol. Please park behind Lenny’s (between Fondren Guitars and the post office) or at Regions Bank.

VA2K Fitness Walk for Homeless Veterans

VA2K Fitness Walk for Homeless Veterans • May 15 at the main flagpole • G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center

The purpose of the walk is to encourage participants to increase their level of physical activity and to benefit our homeless Veterans.   This year, we are pleased to announce that our Honorary Chairman for the 2013 VA2K Walk here at the Jackson VAMC is the 2010 “Biggest Loser” winner Patrick House from Vicksburg, MS.   House will be on-site for the 11:30 a.m. walk.

There are three different walk times to accommodate employees and participants. All VA2K events will take place in front of the hospital by the main flagpole.  Music, wellness information and refreshments will be provided. 

First Walk         07:00 a.m.

Main Walk        11:30 a.m.  (House to serve as Honorary Chairman)

Last Walk         2:30 p.m.

Participants will also have an opportunity to donate items of need to our homeless Veterans. The Donation Collection Events will be held in the atrium from 07:00 – 09:00a.m, 11:30 – 01:00p.m. and 02:30 – 05:00p.m. on:

May 3rd, May 7th, May 10th, & May 14th

JBA Epic Bike Weekend

2nd Annual Jackson Bike Advocates EPIC BIKE WEEKEND • May 23-26 (Memorial Day Weekend)

Join the Museum Movie Ride on Thursday; Urban Champion Alleycat on Friday; All Weekend Polo on Saturday and Sunday; and the Brunch Ride before polo on Sunday. There are event pages with specific times and locations on facebook for each individual event.

JBA had big turn-outs for every event last year. The Alleycat is in place of this month’s Community Ride. The entire weekend is sponsored by Revolution, SkateMS, StudioChane, Find It In Fondren™ and BikeWalkMS. This weekend is for all bikes and riders. Every event is free and open to the public so come on out and have a big time… Bikes!!!

Sport: Fondren After 5k on Duling Ave.

Fondren After 5k, presented by liveRIGHTnow, Find It In Fondren™ and Fondren Renaissance, is May 2 at 6pm on Duling Avenue at State Street. Run or walk the challenging hills of the neighborhood and enjoy your “first round on the house” courtesy of Southern Beverage. Patrick Harkins will provide pre and post race music and Babalu will host after race drinks and dining.

Participants get a T-shirt and potential bragging rights on a new personal best.

Flight to the Finish V at St. Richard Catholic Church

Flight to the Finish 5k and Kid’s One Mile Fun Run will be May 4, 2013 at 9:00am @ St Richard Catholic School Campus.

All proceeds and donations will benefit the Saint Richards students in need of financial aid and the Cardinal Men’s Club. The race begins in front of the church and continues through the neighborhoods of Fondren, ending in the school parking lot.

Sport: Fleet Feet Sports’ Fondren Challenge

Fleet Feet Sports  Fondren Challenge • April 13, from 5-7 pm

This challenge is a combination running and trivia scavenger hunt, similar to The Amazing Race.  Teams of two will receive clues and complete challenges at different locations throughout the Fondren area, while running from location to location and racing to be the first team to the finish line.

Fleet Feet Sports has teamed up with businesses in the area whose identities are secret until you figure them out from the clues.  While we can’t reveal who they are, we can tell you that there are some fun challenges in store for you!

Sport: Rush 2 Brush 5k at UMMC

Pediatric Dentistry at Batson Children’s Hospital will host the 11th Annual Rush 2 Brush 5K run/walk and a one-mile fun run on Saturday, February 2, 2013 on the UMMC campus.Rush 2 Brush, along with Give Kids a Smile day held on February 1st, kick-off National Children’s Dental Health Month promoting awareness of the importance of oral health to overall health of children and their families.

Sport: JBA Community Ride at Rainbow Co-Op

Join the Jackson Bike Advocates for the January Community Ride this Friday night. The group will leave the Rainbow Co-Op parking lot promptly at 6pm and ride toward downtown. Cyclists will take the Dr. Robert Smith Parkway to Jackson State University campus ending up at The Penguin. After a social stop there for drink specials, JBA will head back to Fondren where they will finish at the Pix Capri Theater for Furrows Album Release show.

The ride is open to all ages and skill levels and is lead at a slow and leisurely pace. Helmets and lights are encouraged.

MS Blues Marathon & Half Marathon

Saturday, January 5 • Start/Finish in Downtown Jackson

Doubling in size since its beginning in Fondren six years ago, the race, started by John Noblin, makes its way through Fondren as part of the course. Cheer on runners anywhere along Old Canton Road from Woodrow Wilson to Avondale and listen for live bands along the course. Last year, musicians played in front of Fondren Presbyterian Church.

Sport: ‘Get Stuffed’ Viewing Party at Lemuria Annex

Join liveRIGHTnow’s Terry Sullivan and Butterfly Yoga’s Scotta Brady NEXT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th at 10am at the Lemuria Bookstore annex for a special viewing of Get Stuffed.  This episode features Sullivan and Brady as they train two competitors – 6 pack and Josh – to take on Warrior Dash. Paul Bonds from Beanfruit Coffee Company, will be on hand serving locally roasted coffee.
