Color Me Rad, a nationally recognized 5k run and walk, has opened online registration for their March 23 5k in Fondren. Visit ColorMeRad.com to sign up for the race, part of Zippity Doo Dah® weekend.

An important note: participants must enter the word “Fondren” in the promo code box for 20% of their fees to be donated to Friends of Children’s Hospital.

A number of volunteers (age 15 and up) are needed in the effort. In lieu of being paid, their wages will be donated to the charity as well.

Adults and children alike will arrive in white and run or walk through Fondren to be “color bombed” at each kilometer. “The result is a neighborhood washed in a rainbow of colors,” said Jim Wilkirson, Fondren Renaissance Executive Director. The colored dust is made of FDA approved colored cornstarch, and washes off in the shower.

Color Me Rad was created by four friends who wanted a 5k that was more fun than pressure. Races are held in more than 30 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The event is being held in cooperation with Fondren Renaissance Foundation, Sweet Potato Queens, LLC and Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau.
