Add another exciting event to the local events calendar: Stray at Home Art & Music Festival – Fondren will be held on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 10am – 6pm
on Duling Green on the corner of Duling and Old Canton in Fondren at the Forestry Auditorium at the Mississippi Ag Museum. There will be visual artists and craftsmen showing and selling their creations, live music from local and regional bands, a beer truck from Sneaky Beans and a cornhole tournament. The festival is on the Saturday before Mother’s day, so it will be the perfect time to find a gift for a mom, grandmother, aunt, or special “mom” in your life.
The festival will be held with a good cause in mind: helping Parish Furniture based out of Trujillo, Peru. Founded in 2008 by Jacksonian Brad Ball, along with others, Parish exists as an economic development arm of Peru Mission. Currently, Stuart Mills, a former Jackson resident, is the director of Parish. His goal is to create sustainable jobs for Peruvian carpenters by providing them an opportunity to use their skills at hand crafting solid hardwood into beautiful furniture and home accessories. Parish Furniture’s creations will be showcased at the Stray at Home Art & Music Festival in an effort to connect their artisan works to our local Jackson community. Partial proceeds from Stray At Home Art & Music Festival: Fondren will go to Parish in hopes of furthering their artistic resources, continuing to employee these skilled craftsmen, and supporting the work of Peru Mission.
