The living dead are invading funky Fondren on Thursday, October 11, 2011 – and what better place is there to ‘return from beyond’ than the Southern Optical Zombie Crawl and Charity Prom?! The event, benefiting the Mississippi Children’s Optometric Foundation, will spread throughout the central business district with activities for all ages. Businesses will participate in the evening’s Spooky Store Front Contest while the MARKET in Fondren will feature handcrafted wares in the St. Luke’s parking lot. Kids will enjoy the activities set up on Duling Green including space jumps and slides, a Halloween costume contest, a pumpkin decorating contest, and a movie on the big screen. The Radio People (Y101, Mix 98 and U.S. 963) will also be on site with a live radio broadcast.

For anyone wishing to get “zombified”, makeup artists will be on hand to help turn you into one of the undead. Zombies will roam the streets, collecting for the Mississippi Optometric Foundation, and Fondren merchants will welcome trick or treaters with surprises. As the evening progresses, adults 21 and up will converge on Duling Hall for the first annual Zombie Prom complete with the crowning of the evening’s  Zombie Queen & King. Admission is $50 per person or $90 per couple and includes food and drink and music from The Jason Turner Band.
