work from the Plein Air Painters exhibit

Fall is full in Fondren as the Fondren Renaissance Foundation officially gives us the scoop on their calendar for the next several months. Executive Director Jim Wilkirson tells us the next event is the Fondren Park press conference set for August 24 at 10am. At this time, FRF will officially hand over Fondren Park to the City of Jackson. A signature revitalization project of Fondren Renaissance Foundation in cooperation with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, the park was completed earlier this year.

On September 8, the “Outdoor Splendor” Art Show hosts its opening reception for the Four Seasons of the Cedars from 5-8pm. The exhibit featuring the Plein Air Painters of Mississippi hangs though September 30. Also in September, the annual Symphony at Sunset is planned at the Cedars for September 22. Honoring Sherry Greener, the outdoor evening features the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.

October 1 brings the annual White Elephant Sale to Fondren Hall. Rescheduled from an earlier date this year, this event will showcase the wares of Fondren merchants in a thrift sale format. On November 17, a Fondren favorite returns: Fondren Unwrapped, the holiday open house featuring late evening shopping, dining, and live music from local school choirs and others. The following day, November 18, look for “Fonzy”, a life size reindeer, at local merchants and businesses to become eligible for a $500 gift certificate to be given away prior to Christmas.

Rounding out the year, the Four Seasons of the Cedars series closes 2011 with an opening reception for “Gifts from The Seasons” on December 1 from 5-8pm.
