Lemuria Books welcomes New Orleans author and illustrator Alex Beard today at 4pm. Beard is in town as part of his Kid’s Tour for a signing, reading, and kids’ art activity with his book “Monkey See, Monkey Draw.’ The book is the story of a monkey troop and an elephant who learn to paint and draw using their hands and feet in a charming tale about creative exploration and overcoming fears. “Beard aptly conjures the look and feel of prehistoric cave paintings, inspiring readers to create their own. Wild and Wonderful!”, as favorably noted by Kirkus in it’s review of the book.
Beard is a painter and author who has emerged as one of his generation’s most creative and successful artists. Influenced to think creatively from a young age by his uncle, noted photographer Peter Beard, Alex grew up among some of the world’s most interesting and influential people — Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, and their Pop World cohorts were familiar faces in the Beard household. Now, his artwork hangs on public and private walls around the world.
